FAQ

There are many myths and misguided information out there about grooming your pet.  We have included a few of the most common.  If you have any more questions that we have not answered please feel free to contact us.

Why do I need to go to a professional groomer?

A professional not only will know how to make your pet look better, they also will be going over every inch of your pet seeing things you may not have noticed.  We may be the first one to notice ear infections or skin allergies or even the signs of the first fleas.  We also use only pet approved hypoallergenic shampoos.  We have the right tools to make sure your pet is clean and rinsed thoroughly.

How often should my pet be groomed?

The average answer for that is 4-6 weeks.  But it very much depends on the type of pet.  Longer haired breeds that keep there full coat should be seen every 3-4 weeks so that tangles don't turn into major problems.  Shorter coated breeds or long haired ones kept short should come in 4-6 weeks for maintenance.  Cats are alittle different, long haired cats that are not very good at self-grooming should be seen about every 3 months to prevent matting.  Natural oils in there coat will build up and cause matting if not cleaned regularly.  Shorter coated cats can have the same problem but do not need bathing quite as often.

To Shave or not to Shave?

This question is one I hear alot.  Some people believe you should never shave a thick coated dog such as a Chow or Husky.  But unfortunately for these heavy coated breeds they were not designed to live in 80+ degree heat.  Giviing these pets a shorter hair cut without leaving their skin bare can give them some relief.  Keeping a minimum amount of hair protects the skin from sunburn and keeps the skin cooler.  Just like us a thin t-shirt will keep us cooler than a parka and still protect us from the sun.

How often should nails be trimmed?

Nails should be cut every 4 weeks.  Our house pets rarely walk on anything rougher than the carpet, so they have no way to wear down there nails naturally.  If you take your dog out for long walks on the concrete it will file them down as they walk.  Smaller breeds tend to have a problem with longer nails more than the larger breeds mainly do to activity levels. Also as your pet ages and becomes less active the nails will be worn down even less.
